The UIS women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the young season after defeating Purdue Northwest on Saturday night at TRAC in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars defeated the Pride by a 65-52 score.

UIS held Purdue Northwest to just 33.9 percent shooting on the day, including 24 percent from three-point range. The Prairie Stars had an 18-6 advantage in made free throws, and had nine more rebounds.

UIS started slow and trailed 11-5 early, but took control of the game in the second part of the first quarter. The Prairie Stars ended up leading 18-14 after 10 minutes, and extended the lead to 37-26 by halftime.

In the second half, Purdue Northwest cut that lead to six on two occasions. Late in the third quarter, a three-pointer by
Tehya Fortune helped UIS go back up and eventually lead 46-37 at the end of the period.

Purdue Northwest hit a three-pointer to start the fourth, but a 10-2 run by UIS helped the Prairie Stars have a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

Tehya Fortune had a team-high 15 points, followed by 13 from
Jasmine Sangster.
Lauren Ladowski finished with 11, and had three assists.
Katelyn Rosner had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

UIS will be in action again on Tuesday with an exhibition game at Western Illinois.
