The University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team moved one step closer to a GLVC Tournament spot with a 5-1 win over Southwest Baptist on Friday in Springfield, Ill.

The Prairie Stars took 32 shots in the game, with half of those being on goal. The first shot that went past the goalie came just 61 seconds into the game when
Mario Falsone, one of eight seniors honored after the game for Senior Night, scored off a rebound on his first shot.

Southwest Baptist tied the game in the 22nd minute, but
Drew Keller and
Darien Turner both had goals to make it 3-1 at halftime. Senior
Thiago Fernandes and
Mario Gonzalez had assists on those scores.

In the second half, senior
Alex Morais scored at the 50-minute mark, and
Terence Bynoe, with an assist from Falsone, ended the scoring in the 84th minute.

Pijus Petkevicius made three saves in goal for UIS.
Adrian Ortega had a team-high six shots, and he and Falsone each had three shots on goal.

UIS is now 8-7-2 on the year and 6-6-2 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars end the regular season on Sunday at home against Drury. A win in that game will give UIS a spot in the GLVC Tournament.
