Alli Splitt Has Record-Setting Day At Midwest Region Crossover

Senior middle hitter Alli Splitt had a record-breaking day, but the University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team fell twice on Saturday at the 2019 Midwest Crossover. The Prairie Stars fell 3-2 against Northern Michigan, and lost 3-0 versus No. 24 Michigan Tech.

In the opener, UIS fell by scores of 26-24, 13-25, 25-16, 15-25, and 15-11. The Prairie Stars hit .519 and .481 in their two sets victories, but hit under .215 for the other three sets. The team's hitting was especially a problem late in the match. UIS led the fifth set 10-8, but four attack errors down the stretch helped Northern Michigan score seven of the final eight points.

Splitt finished the match with a team-high 16 kills, and also had one service ace and two blocks. With her 18.5 points, she became the school's all-time points leader during its NCAA era. The one service ace also put her in solo possession of that career record since the program's move to the NCAA.

Brianna Bush also had 16 kills, Hannah Nicolaisen had 10, and Jailyn Borum collected nine. Other team leaders were Becca Blakeley with 48 assists, Megan Krasowski with four service aces, Blakeley and Rachel Cobert with 12 digs, and Bush with seven blocks and 22 points.

UIS fell to Michigan Tech by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-23. Michigan tech had 13 more kills and six more service aces in the match.

Cobert led the team with nine kills, and Bush and Splitt had eight kills apiece. Blakeley had 33 assists, Bush had four blocks, and Cobert collected 13 digs. Borum and Jenny Rush also had double-figure dig totals in the match.

UIS falls to 13-9 on the season. The Prairie Stars return to GLVC play this Friday at home against Lindenwood.
