Cross Country Has Final Regular Season Competition At Lewis Crossover

The University of Illinois Springfield cross country teams competed in the Lewis Crossover on Saturday in Romeoville, Ill. The race is the largest NCAA Division II-only meet during the year, and it included six nationally-ranked women's teams and 11 nationally-ranked men's programs.
 
The women's team finished 22nd out of 36 teams in the meet. The Prairie Stars recorded 539 points, and they finished ahead of four GLVC squad. The men's team was 11th out of 34 programs. UIS had 307 points, and finished ahead of six of the seven other GLVC programs in the meet.
 
Taryn Christy had the best individual finish on the day for UIS, coming in 16th in the women's race. She had a time of 23:09, less than a minute behind the individual winner in the 6,000m race.
 
Savannah Brannan and Gloria Esarco both had top-100 finishes as well in the 402-person field. Brannan had a time of 24:09, and Esarco's mark was 24:21. Rounding out the top-five on the team were Morgan Suttles and Libby Price, both who finished with a time of 25:40.
 
The men's team had all five of its top runners in the top-108 of their 420-person field. Wyatt McIntyre led the way with a time of 26:06 on the 8,000m course. He finished 35th overall in the race. Blake Jones was 50th with a mark of 26:19, and Tyler Pasley was 58th with a time of 26:24. Rounding out the scoring for the team were Tyler Hiserote in 88th place with a time of 26:43, and Ryan Stark who was 108th with a mark of 26:52.
 
The meet was the final tuneup for the two squads before the GLVC Championships, which will be on Oct. 26 in Evansville, Ind.
