The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team fell to Bellarmine on Thursday night by a 3-1 score in Springfield, Ill. The Prairie Stars lost by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-19.
 
UIS started off hot offensively which helped it win the first set, and it had a 15-12 lead in the second set. Bellarmine scored five straight points at that point, which turned the momentum in the match. The Knights ended up winning that set 25-21, and then went on to win the final two sets as well.
 
Bellarmine finished the match with 63 kills, 16 more than the Prairie Stars, and it had 23 more attempts on the night. The Knights had a .210 hitting percentage, compared to .190 for UIS. UIS had four more blocks, and eight fewer hitting errors, but that wasn't enough for the victory.
 
Hannah Nicolaisen led the team with 14 kills, and Rachel Cobert had 10. Becca Blakeley collected 39 assists, and Alli Splitt had four of the team's five aces. Three players had double-figure digs with Jailyn Borum collecting 25, Cobert recording 17, and Jenny Rush having 15. Brianna Bush was the leading blocker with six.
 
UIS falls to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars are back in action on Saturday with a road contest at Indianapolis.
