University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball freshman
Lauren Ladowski scored 10 points to put together her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring game.
The St. John, Ind. native also contributed team-highs of five rebounds and four assists.
UIS (5-10, 2-5) fell to Drury University (17-0, 7-0), ranked No. 2 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II poll, in a 97-58 loss during Saturday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup at TRAC. Drury held a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and a 45-19 lead at halftime. The Panthers extended their lead to 78-45 after three quarters and outscored UIS 19-13 in the fourth quarter.
Jasmine Sangster led the Prairie Stars with 15 points.
Ellie Mitchell delivered 11 points while
Val Meissner turned in nine points.
Lanie Hicks scored five points and
Tehya Fortune provided three points.
Gabrielle Sanders and
Katelyn Rosner added two points apiece while
Brianna Mefford rounded out the UIS scoring effort with one point.
Carson Vance and Hicks each collected three steals while Sanders blocked two shots.
Paige Robinson paced the Panthers with a team-high 26 points and also blocked two shots. Hailey Diestelkamp, the reigning United States Basketball Writer's Association (USBWA) NCAA Division II women's basketball national Player of the Week, produced 17 points along with team-highs of eight rebounds and three blocks. Azia Lynch put together 12 points. Daejah Bernard notched 10 points and two blocks, in addition to team-highs of eight steals and six assists. Lauren Holmes also tallied five steals and five assists.
The Panthers overwhelmed the Prairie Stars with their defensive pressure. Drury collected 22 steals off 36 UIS turnovers. The Panthers rolled to a 47-12 advantage in points off turnovers and a 26-6 advantage in fast-break points. Drury committed 20 turnovers.
The Panthers converted 37-of-67 (55.2 percent) shots from the field and 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) attempts from 3-point range. UIS hit 16-of-46 (34.8 percent) attempts from the floor and 5-of-19 (26.3 percent) shots from behind the arc.
The Prairie Stars knocked down 21-of-26 (80.8 percent) shots from the free-throw line while the Panthers made 16-of-23 (69.6 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
UIS came away with a 16-7 advantage on second-chance points.
The Prairie Stars challenge No. 25 Truman State University (15-3, 6-2) in GLVC action next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Kirksville, Mo. UIS then invades Quincy to take on Quincy University (5-12, 3-5) in a GLVC contest next Saturday at 1 p.m.
