Bellarmine Shuts Down UIS

Bellarmine University shut down the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team with a 1-0 victory during Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup in Louisville, Ky.
 
During the opening minute, Kenzie Gooley deflected a pass for Bellarmine (6-3-1, 4-1-1) that went to the right of the goal.
 
UIS's best scoring opportunity came 14 minutes into the match when Erin Bolskar fired a shot from the top-left corner of the box that struck the crossbar.
 
Bellarmine's Isabella Zamborini created a one-on-one situation during the 64th minute, but UIS goalkeeper Bailey Cross shut down the shot attempt.
 
Zamborini delivered a shot 73 minutes into the match that hit the crossbar.
 
During the 75th minute, Zamborini provided a touch favorable to Bellarmine and drove up the right side. She sent to pass to Natalie Teo in the box and Teo's shot was blocked. Gooley recovered the rebound and contributed the go-ahead goal.
 
Olivia Taylor added a shot for the Knights in the 86th minute that went just above the goal.
 
Gooley and Taylor each tallied four shots for the Knights. Zamborini recorded three shots while Teo, Annabel Moore and Samantha Ferry posted two shots apiece. Madison Stephens turned in a shot for Bellarmine.
 
Maggie Juhlin, Kayla Meyer and Bolskar put together shots for the Prairie Stars (1-7-2, 1-5).
 
Elyssa Francis recorded a shutout for Bellarmine.
 
Cross saw six shots and came up with five saves.
 
Bellarmine outshot UIS by a 19-3 margin. The Knights tallied six shots on goal and prevented the Prairie Stars from delivering a shot on target.
 
The Prairie Stars host two GLVC matches at Kiwanis Stadium next week. UIS battles McKendree University (7-1-1, 4-1-1) on Friday at 5 p.m. The Prairie Stars then welcome William Jewell College (6-4-1, 3-3) on Sunday at 12 p.m.
