UIS Women's Soccer Drops Homecoming Match

McKendree University outlasted the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team with a late goal to earn a 1-0 victory during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup at Kiwanis Stadium.

"I'm very happy with the performance by the girls tonight," UIS coach Erin Egolf said. "They showed a lot of heart and caused McKendree a lot of problems."

Ally Fischer flicked a pass to Amanda Meyer seven minutes into the match for the Prairie Stars (1-8-2, 1-6) to create a one-on-one situation, but Amanda Meyer's shot went to the right.

McKendree (9-1-1, 5-1-1) created a look 15 minutes into the match. Karla Engels gave Riley Ross a through ball, but UIS goalkeeper Paloma Guijarro beat Ross to the ball.

During the 54th minute, Meyer delivered a cross that just missed Fischer. Allison Hackett one-timed the loose ball, but the shot went high.

Emma Knoebel delivered a corner kick during the 66th minute. Ross headed the serve, but Guijarro collected the save.

Knoebel sent back a UIS clear and fired the ball in the back of the net off a volley during the 84th minute.

Erin Bolskar led the Prairie Stars with two shots on goal. Sam Christensen finished with two shots, including one shot on goal. Meyer provided two shots. Fischer and Hackett each contributed shots.

Morgan Hollenbeck notched four shots for the Bearcats. Amanda Williams and Ross each turned in two shots. Jane Skaggs, Knoebel, Kate Bixby and Madyson Mossman each added shots.

McKendree's Zoe Brochu recorded a three-save shutout.

Guijarro faced three shots and came up with two saves.

The Bearcats outshot UIS by a 12-8 margin. Both teams put together three shots on goal.

"If we continue to play like we did [on Friday], results are going to happen. No we have to rebound quickly and prepare ourselves for a tough matchup against William Jewell on Sunday."

The Prairie Stars welcome William Jewell College (6-5-1, 3-4) on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium.
