Greyhounds Capitalize on Early Lead, Top Prairie Stars

The University of Indianapolis capitalized on two goals in the first 14 minutes to top the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team 2-1 during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup at Indianapolis.
 
Indianapolis (6-2, 3-0) took the lead during the fourth minute. Stephanie Burdsall intercepted a pass in the backfield and drove in for the score.
 
The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead 13 minutes into the match. Taylor Peck started a drive outside of the box on the right side. Peck made the pass to Burdsall and Burdsall found Michele Govern open for the score from 20 yards out. Burdsall was given the assist.
 
UIS (1-4-2, 1-2) cut the lead to one score 29 minutes into the match. Lauren Griffin served a corner kick and Maggie Juhlin contributed a header to find the back of the net with Griffin on the assist. Among UIS Division II career leaders, Juhlin is tied for sixth in points (16) and tied for seventh in goals (6).
 
Juhlin contributed three shots and two shots on goal for the Prairie Stars. Allison Hackett provided a shot on goal.
 
Laura Shake saved two of the three shots she faced for Indianapolis.
 
Bailey Cross faced five shots and came up with three saves.
 
Indianapolis outshot UIS by a 12-4 margin and held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The Prairie Stars battle Lewis University (2-2-2, 1-1) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Romeoville.
