UIS Falls to Lewis

The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team fell to Lewis University in a 1-0 loss during Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup.

Cali Havelka-Vanderplow put the Flyers (3-3-2, 2-2) on the board after finding the back of the net 63 minutes into the match. Alissa Waits and Abby Gustafson were credited with assists.

"We were solid in the first half," UIS coach Erin Egolf said. "We created a couple of really good opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net. We dropped off a lot in the second half. In our conference, you have to show up and stay switched on the entire 90 minutes, and we failed to do that."

Gustafson fired a shot on target for the Flyers during the 76th minute, but UIS goalkeeper Paloma Guijarro came up with the jumping save.

Maggie Juhlin and Taylor Mraz each provided two shots with one shot on target for the Prairie Stars (1-5-2, 1-3). Erin Bolskar and Allison Hackett also added shots.

Mallory Richardson contributed four shots for the Flyers. Kailey Parnello registered three shots. Maddie Levins notched two shots while Karly Soy, Allie Mikos, Havelka-Vanderplow and Gustafson each tallied shots.

Lucy Clark recorded a shutout for Lewis, saving both of the shots she faced.

Guijarro faced four shots and came up with three saves.

Lewis outshot UIS by a 13-6 margin and held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Prairie Stars are scheduled for two GLVC matches next week. UIS invades Evansville, Ind. To take on the University of Southern Indiana (3-3-2, 2-1-1) on Friday at 5 p.m. The Prairie Stars then venture to Louisville, Ky. to battle Bellarmine University (4-3-1, 2-1-1) on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.

"With nine matches left, we are still in the hunt, but only we can control our destiny. That's starts with a good week of training and then putting together good performances next weekend on the road."
