Prairie Stars Volleyball Improves To 2-0 In GLVC Play

The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team defended its home court on Tuesday and did not drop one set in the process. The Prairie Stars won the conference meeting with Bellarmine by scores of 26-24, 27-25, and 25-19.

The first two sets both went into extra points, and the Prairie Stars won both to take control of the match. In the first set, the score was tied at 24 before a pair of errors by the Knights gave UIS the game. In the second set, UIS faced set point as it was down 25-24, before it scored three straight with two kills by Alli Splitt and one from Taylor Bauer.

In the third set, UIS took control early and it had its best hitting percentage of the night with a .325 mark for the set. The Prairie Stars finished with a .264 mark for the game, while holding the Knights to .156. A big reason for those numbers was UIS have a 12-1 edge in blocks.

Splitt led the offense by having a season-high 12 kills, and she hit .524 for the match. Bauer was also in double-figures with 10, and she hit .370. All six starters had at least five kills in the contest. Tiffany Wentworth led the team with 33 assists, and Bauer had the team's only service ace.

Defensively, Jaylin Borum had a team-high in digs with 21 and Wentworth chipped in with 14. Alyssa Hasler had a team-high six blocks, one more than Bauer and Splitt.

UIS improves to 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars will be on the road on Friday night at No. 12 Rockhurst.
