Stokowski Earns NCBWA Midwest Region Player-of-the-Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, IL – University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) baseball standout Nick Stokowski earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Midwest Region Player-of-the-Week honors, which was announced on Wednesday.
 
UIS (31-4, 12-0) is fresh off a four-game sweep against McKendree University (6-27, 1-10). The Prairie Stars picked up 11-10 and 15-4 victories last Saturday. UIS then followed up by taking 7-6 and 15-8 wins last Sunday. The Prairie Stars are ranked No. 5 in the latest NCBWA NCAA Division II poll.
 
Stokowski went 4-for-14 on the week with two home runs, five runs, two RBIs and six walks. The senior from Monticello, IL compiled a .286 batting average, a .524 on-base percentage and a .714 slugging percentage.
 
In Game 1, Stokowski connected for a solo homer, going 1-for-4. Stokowski finished 1-for-4 in Game 2. In Game 3, Stokowski went 1-for-3 while delivering a solo blast. Stokowski closed out the week going 1-for-3 with three walks.
 
Among NCAA Division II leaders, Stokowski ranks fifth in slugging percentage (.836), seventh in RBIs per game (1.4), 12th in home runs per game (0.4), 29th in batting average (.418) and 43rd in on-base percentage (.503). Amid GLVC leaders, Stokowski ranks first in slugging percentage, first in RBIs per game, first in home runs per game, second in batting average and fourth in on-base percentage.
 
Among NCAA Division II leaders, UIS ranks second in slugging percentage (.578), third in home runs per game (1.77), fourth in scoring (9.4), seventh in on-base percentage (.428), eighth in doubles per game (2.46) and ninth in batting average (.331). UIS leads the conference in the previously listed categories.
 
The Prairie Stars host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (4-21, 3-9) in a four-game series this weekend. Both teams face off in 12 p.m. doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
