UIS Squares Off with No. 15 Southern Indiana/William Jewell

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's basketball team face off with University of Southern Indiana (USI) and William Jewell College in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action this weekend.
SETTING THE SCENE
UIS (10-10, 4-8) take on two home games this week. Clashing with USI (19-2, 11-1) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then taking on William Jewell (10-9, 7-5) on Saturday at 3 p.m. at home. USI is ranked No. 15 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II poll.
LOOKING BACK
USI topped UIS 57-85 at home last season. The Screaming Eagles qualified for the GLVC Tournament.
UIS fell short against William Jewell last season, taking a 62-55 loss  
WHAT'S HAPPENING LATLEY
The Prairie Stars accumulated a set of losses at University of Wisconsin-Parkside (8-16, 4-8) and at Bellarmine University (13-9, 8-5) last week.  UIS fell to Wisconsin-Parkside with a 67-57 loss and to Bellarmine with a 91-44 defeat.
USI secured a victory over Maryville University (7-12, 4-9), with a 75-50 win at home. The Screaming Eagles went on to defeat Quincy University (7-15, 3-10) 85-53.
William Jewell fought off McKendree University (9-10, 5-7) with a 68-63 win. The Cardinals continued and fell to No. 9 Drury University (20-2, 11-1) 46-101.
STARS OF NOTE
Katelyn Rosner leads the GLVC with 1.7 blocks per game. The 6-foot-2 sophomore center from Chicago, IL also ranks second in the conference with 5.8 defensive rebounds per game.
Among GLVC leaders, Destiny Ramsey is ranked fourth in blocks per game with 1.3 and fifth in defensive rebounds per game with 5.1
Shelbi Patterson reached the 1,000-point milestone during a defeat against Wisconsin-Parkside last Thursday.
A LOOK AT USI
The Screaming Eagles are led by Kaydie Grooms, who is averaging 17.8 points. As a team, the Screaming Eagles are averaging 73.43 points.
UIS is in pursuit of its first win over USI as the Prairie Stars are 0-9 all-time against the Screaming Eagles.
A LOOK AT WILLIAM JEWELL
William Jewell led by Kayla Harrell, as she averages 13.3 points. The Cardinals as a team are averaging 60.42 points.
UIS is 2-6 all-time with the Cardinals. The Prairie Stars won winning 2 of the last 4 games played against the Cardinals in 2014 and 2016 while losing by one point in their 2015 game.
LOOKING AHEAD
UIS welcomes Quincy University (7-15, 3-10) on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in TRAC. The Prairie Stars then face off with the University of Missouri-St. Louis (14-5, 8-4) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Louis, MO.
