UIS Aims to Demonstrate Growth in GLVC Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Women's team will be making their 3 appearance at the GLVC Indoor Championships this weekend.  Last winter the team placed 11th of the 13 schools represented with a total of 8 points, those points came with a 6th place finish in the Distance Medley Relay and a 4th place finish in the 800m Run by Krissy Finley.  In 2016 that team did not score with Finley missing a point by one place finishing 9th in the 800m.

This year the team will have its largest group of the 3 years competing with 9 athletes that have been entered into the meet.  Leading the way, based on seeding will be Lexi Yoggerst in the 800m Run where she is seeded 5th in the event with her best time of year coming at Grand Valley State on Feb 10th (2:16.72).  The 4 x 400m Relay is also seeded 5th and includes Yoggerst, along with Finley, and Gloria Escarco and either Olivia Rohr or Rachael Crowley will handle the 4th leg for the team.   Finley is seeded 13th in the 800.  The Distance Medley Relay team of Escarso (1200m), Rohr (400m), Crowley (800m), and Alexandria Quarton on the 1600m leg will represent the program looking to work into the Top 10 schools.  Rounding out the individual entries will be Quarton in the 3000m Run (21st Seed), Aeriel Storey 60m Dash (17th Seed) and 200m Dash (19th seed).  Teddy Beaucham will compete in the Shot Put (20th seed) and Maddie Logsdon in the Triple Jump (16th seed).

Coach Mike De Witt's outlook on the Championship Meet:  "We will be competitive within our sections this season, which is the next step in the growth of the program.  An example of the progress is that we were only able to enter 2 runners into individual events the past two seasons because we would not have been competitive in the Championship format.  We are looking to score in the 800m and the 4 x 400 Relay with an outside chance of points (placing in the Top 8) in the Distance Medley.  Along with competing strong in each event, looking to be at Career best and School Record marks, and gaining championship experience is the main focus of this years championships for the ladies."
