The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team charged past Drury University with a 3-1 victory during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup in Springfield, Mo.
"We talked about before the game about the girls rewarding themselves for the work they've put in this season," UIS coach
Erin Egolf said.
"I think this has been a long time coming," UIS forward
Amanda Meyer added. "We have been working extremely hard and I am really happy that we were finally able to get this well-deserved result."
Meyer paced the Prairie Stars (2-9-2, 2-7) with two goals. Among UIS Division II career leaders, Meyer is tied for 10th with four goals.
During the fifth minute of the match, Drury (0-12-1, 0-9) created a run with two players driving upfield. Uxoa Bertiz fired the shot, but UIS goalkeeper
Paloma Guijarro came up with a critical save.
Meyer scored her first goal during the 12th minute when

One minute later, Gabbe Millot delivered the equalizer for Drury from 20 yards out after capitalizing on a soft-touch pass from Brinn Cooper and providing a top-spin shot.
Sam Christensen put a shot just right of the goal for the Prairie Stars 19 minutes into the match.
Meyer posted her second goal of the day 54 minutes into the match.
Angela Dagnino gave Meyer a through ball and Meyer slipped her shot through a one-on-two situation.
Valentina Rodriguez provided a goal during the 71st minute after firing her shot in the left of the net.
Lauren Griffin earned the assist.
Meyer scored on both of her shots while Rodriguez scored on her only shot. Christensen tallied two shots and Bolskar added a shot on goal.
Millot notched four shots. Cooper and Bertiz produced three shots. Jayde Lowe contributed two shots and Chloe Cash registered a shot.
Guijarro saved seven of the eight shots she faced.
Drury's Sarah Franks faced four shots and collected one save.
The Panthers outshot the Prairie Stars 13-6 and held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
"It was an amazing game," Rodriguez stated. "We kept the intensity high and stood behind each other. When we play like that, many opportunities will open up to us."
"Amanda had two very nice, composed finishes and Valentina's goal was sensational," Egolf commented. "More than that, our back line and midfield won a lot of important battles. Seeing the resilience by this group after losing so many close matches previously is absolutely phenomenal."
The Prairie Stars clash with Missouri S&T (3-8-1, 2-6-1) during a GLVC matchup on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Rolla, Mo.
"We look to bring the momentum into our Sunday contest against a competitive Missouri S&T."
