The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) men's soccer team clashed to a 1-1 draw with Drury University during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup in Springfield, Mo.
"It was a good fast-paced end-to-end match for a neutral fan," UIS coach
Adam Hall said. "It was a very slick and difficult on the turf with the rain we had."
Daniel Kemp gave the Prairie Stars (6-4-3, 5-2-2) the lead during the 47th minute after capitalizing off a pass from
Rory Carlson to net a goal from the center of the box.
Drury (2-8-3, 2-5-2) evened the score 69 minutes into the match when Jamie O'Brien provided a goal assisted by Francesco Ferri.
During the 88th minute,
Javier Milla had a one-on-one situation. Milla created a strong chance off his opposite foot, but Drury's Nico Helin came up with the ball before Milla could register a shot. Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Kemp provided two shots on goal.
Mario Gonzalez contributed two shots, including one shot on goal.
Rhys Wallace and
Josh Moore each turned in shots on goal while
Thiago Fernandes added a shot.
O'Brien tallied four shots while Ferri produced three shots. Trent Williams, Trevor Cairns and Mitchell Vaughn also put together shots for Drury.
UIS's
Pijus Petkevicius saw two shots and came up with one save during 110 minutes in action.
Helin served at goalkeeper for 110 minutes and saved four of the five shots he faced.
Drury outshot UIS 10-7. The Prairie Stars held a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.
UIS currently sits third in the GLVC standings.
"We created good chances and had some large spells of possession on the ball. We need to keep improving in all areas as a team if we want our season to continue longer in the postseason."
The Prairie Stars battle Missouri S&T (3-9, 3-6) in a GLVC matchup on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Rolla, Mo.
