Prairie Stars Extend Winning Streak to Three with Win over William Jewell

LIBERTY, MO --- The University of Illinois Springfield (8-4, 2-1) picked up a road win over Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent William Jewell (4-8, 1-2) with a four-set win. The win gave the Prairie Stars their third straight victory, two of which were within the GLVC.

This was the first GLVC road test for the Prairie Stars and after dropping the first set, they took the next three, including a third set victory that included 17 kills.

In the opening set, UIS fell behind 13-8 but scored three straight points to cut the deficit to just 13-10. However, Jewell responded with five straight points and six of the next seven to take a 19-11 lead. Jewell was up 23-17 but UIS responded with five consecutive points to trail by just one, 23-22. This forced Jewell into a timeout, after which they closed out the set with the next two points.

After falling in a close set, UIS came out and scored the first six points of the second set and then jumped out to a 12-1 lead.

However, Jewell came back with a late run, as the Prairie Stars did in the first set, and scored seven of eight points to cut the UIS lead to 19-16. The Prairie Stars ended the set with a kill from Alyssa Hasler to even the match at one set a piece.

In the third set, UIS tallied 17 kills against just one error, attacking at a clip of .432. The Prairie Stars took the set 25-19. UIS then closed out the match in the fourth set with a 25-21 to improve to 8-4, 2-1 on the season.

Hasler continued her dominance this season with a team-high 14 kills and just two errors. Kenzie Hendon added three kills and another ace while Lexi Hall had a team-high 23 assists.

UIS will take on (RV) Rockhurst University on Saturday with a 3:00 PM first serve.
