ELGIN, IL – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team took down Judson University with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.
"It's always nice to get a win on the road, especially heading into an important conference weekend," UIS coach
Erin Egolf said.
Emily Matsen sparked the Prairie Stars (3-1-2) by turning in two goals, which were both assisted by
Meghan Delaney.
Judson (0-6) gained the early advantage when Adela Pelayo recorded a goal four minutes into the match. Matsen delivered an equalizer during the 37th minute after capitalizing of a pass from Delaney.
Matsen netted her second goal of the match during the 69th minute with Delaney on the assist. UIS gained a lead that would be maintained for the remainder of the contest.
UIS outshot Judson by a 19-to-6 margin. The Prairie Stars also held an 11-to-3 advantage in shots on goal.
"We created a ton of quality chances and dominated play. We just have to turn more of those chances into goals."
Matsen found the back of the net with both of her shots on target. Delaney and
Erin Bolskar notched two shots on goal apiece while the Prairie Stars also received shots on goal from
Maggie Juhlin,
Amanda Meyer,
Taylor Mraz,
Taylor Parriott and
Madisyn Coudriet.
Pelayo tallied two shots on goal and Alyssa Moreno added another shot on target for Judson.

Paloma Guijarro sent away two of the three shots she faced and Judson's Morgan Olsen rejected nine of the 11 shots she faced.
"We had a lot of good opportunities," Matsen acknowledged. "We didn't play as well as we would've liked, but it's nice getting a win coming into our first home weekend of conference games."
The Prairie Stars hold a 0-1-1 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play and begin their home season with two conference matches. UIS hosts Drury University (3-1-1, 1-1) on Friday at 5 p.m. and Missouri S&T (0-4, 0-2) on Sunday at 12 p.m.
"Now we are looking ahead to the upcoming games this Friday and Sunday at home," Egolf commented. "I'm confident that if the team plays well and puts together a consistent 90 minutes each game, we will be in every game we play."
