GAME ONE: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 5, UINDY 4
After being off for nearly a week,
James Battley wasted no time getting back into the swing of things, hitting a leadoff homerun in the top of the first to give the Prairie Stars a 1-0 lead. It was Battley's fourth home run of the season.Â
UIndy came back with a run in the bottom half to tie the score but Gregory limited the damage, striking out the final batter of the inning with the bases loaded.Â
In the third, a lead off walk to
Drew Harper and single from Battley started the inning, both of which came in to score on a single from
Trey Hannam, giving UIS a 3-1 lead.
Neither team scored again until the seventh, when the Greyhounds broke through for another run, closing the gap to 3-2. However,
Michael Rothmund opened the game back up in the top of the eighth with his league leading 22nd home run of the season, a two-run shot to left, putting UIS up 5-2.Â
Though UIndy plated two runs in the eighth,
Brayden Jensen closed out the game for his second save of the season.Â
Gregory (9-2) threw the first five innings, giving up four hits and one run before handing the ball to Jensen, who threw the final four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on just three hits.Â
