Supak Concludes Historic Career with T-4 Finish at NCAA Regional

AXTELL, NE --- Talon Supak concluded his four-year career at Illinois Springfield in historic fashion, firing a final round 64 at the NCAA Regional at Awarii Dunes in Axtell, Nebraska. The 64 (-8) is the lowest round in UIS history both in total score and versus par, besting the previous record by four strokes. His final round included five birdies and two eagles as he missed the National Championship by just two strokes. Supak put together rounds of 69 (-3), 70 (-2), and 64 (-8) for a 203 (-13) total and finished T-4 in a 108-player field.

Not only was the 64 an 18-hole record, but his 36-hole score of 139 (-5) was also a UIS best by a stroke but the 54-hole total of 203 blew away the previous record of 213 (-3), which Supak set in the 2015-16 season.

Going through the round, a birdie on the first was followed by two pars, both of which lipped out for birdie. On the fourth, Supak saved par with an 18-foot putt, helping string together five-straight pars. A birdie on the seventh preceded an eagle on the eight hole, which was made via a hole-out from 150 yards. Supak closed the first nine by lipping out an eagle putt on the par-five ninth, going out in 31 (-5).

The back nine showed his only blemish of the round with a bogey on the par-three 11th hole, but he quickly responded with his second eagle of the day, again holing out from 35 yards out on the par-five 12th hole.

On the par-three 15th, Supak stayed locked in, hitting the pin with a nine-iron, leading to a tap-in birdie, narrowly missing his third eagle of the day. A third lip out birdie putt on the 16th was the first of back-to-back pars before a birdie on the 612 yard par-five 18th hole gave Supak a career-low 64.

A near perfect round put Supak in contention to qualify for the National Championship for the second straight year, but needing to finish as a top-two individual, Supak ended the tournament T-4, missing the cut by just two strokes.

Supak ended the tournament T-2 in the field in par-three scoring, going two-under on the 15 par three's throughout the week. The senior played the par-fours at four-under, T-9 in the field while a seven-under mark on the par-fives put him T-8 in the field. His two eagles put him T-2 in the field, behind only Keenai Sampson, who won the event, while his 14 birdies were T-14 in the field. His eagle on hole eight was the lone eagle on that hole throughout the entire week while his eagle on 12 was one of just 13.
