SPRINGFIELD, MO --- Talon Supak came within one-stroke of adding another win to his already impressive resume, as the senior took second place at the GLVC Championships at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri. Supak led the Prairie Stars to a fifth place finish in the 14-team tournament, narrowly missing out on the four-team match-play tournament.
UIS opened up the tournament with a team score of 300 before ending day one with a 301, as the team played 36-holes to begin the tournament. Needing to make up eight strokes on Bellarmine to make the semi-finals for the third straight year, UIS fired a 298, but it wasn't enough, ending the tournament ten back of Bellarmine for the final spot.
Supak went into the day tied for the individual lead after carding a UIS record four-under 68 in yesterday's first round before following it up with a two-over 74. Supak fired an even-par 72 in the final round and finished in second place in the 69-player field.
By finishing second, Supak earned his third consecutive All-GLVC nod.
Louis Bagur also bagged a top-ten finish, ending the tournament T-9 after two 75's surrounded a second round two-under 70.
Trevor Flota finished T-40, firing a 79-76-77 while
Erik Thulien finished T-53 with rounds of 81-84-74.
Mitch McCafferty rounded out UIS scoring with a T-60 finish, marking down a 78-81-84 on the weekend.
Missouri – St. Louis led all teams with a score of 871 with Indianapolis finishing second at 878. Drury and Bellarmine took third and fourth with 887 and 889, respectively, with UIS coming in fifth at 899.
Though the team's season concluded, Supak still has a chance to advance to the Regional --- an event which he won last year to advance to the National Championship --- but has to be voted in by the coaches.
