Prairie Stars Blank Drury in Sweep

SPRINGFIELD, MO --- The Prairie Stars (27-21, 13-11) extended their winning streak to seven games by blanking Drury in their doubleheader, winning 9-0 and 10-0. A dominate performance by Ali Haesele in game one was boosted by a five-run sixth inning before Jaycee Craver followed with a three-hit complete-game shutout in game two to cap off the day.

GAME ONE: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 9, DRURY 0
In the first inning of the day, Haesele began things with the bat, hitting a double to right-center before scoring on a single from Madi Torry. Just like that, the Prairie Stars were off and running. Haesele worked around a walk and a double in the bottom of the first to keep Drury off the board before UIS scored again in the third on another single from Torry.

Up 2-0, Haesele retired eight straight batters before giving up another hit, which was wiped out by a double play in the fourth. At this point, UIS had scored again in the top half of the fourth on a single from Katie Wooldridge, scoring Alexa Brown.

UIS plated five runs in the sixth, beginning with back-to-back singles from BriAnna Edgar and Wooldridge. Torry singled to load the bases, which were promptly cleared on a double to left center from Amanda Gosbeth, giving UIS a 7-0 lead. Gosbeth came home on a triple from Lakyn Wagoner, who later scored on a Panther error, making the score 9-0.

Haesele continued her dominance, retiring the final eight batters of the game to complete the shutout. The junior righty struck out seven and walked just one, allowing two hits. It was her third straight outing allowing four or fewer his in a complete-game.

Torry and Wooldridge each had three hits while Gosbeth drove in a game-high three runs. Eight different Prairie Stars recorded a hit in game one.

GAME TWO: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 10, DRURY 0
After not scoring for the first two trips to the plate, UIS turned it on, plating three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and five in the fifth to take the game 10-0.

The offensive outburst wasn't even needed, as Jaycee Craver (8-9) tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out three. It was the sophomore's second complete-game shut-out with three hits in her last three starts.

In the third, Gosbeth and Wagoner each reached base to begin the rally, as Gosbeth later scored on a wild pitch, which advanced Wagoner to third. This then turned irrelevant as Erin Stroup would have scored everybody, as she blasted her fifth homerun of the season to left center, making the score 3-0.

Two more runs in the fourth came home on a double from Wagoner, as Torry and Wooldridge each crossed the plate.

The game concluded with five runs crossing in the fifth, as Wooldridge drove in another run, before Gosbeth walked with the bases loaded to score another. Wagoner continued her big day with a two-RBI double before the score was pushed to 10-0 where it became final.

Wagoner drove in four runs in game two alone, while Torry, Gosbeth, and Stroup all scored twice.

UIS now sits in sixth place in the GLVC standings, where the top-eight advance to the GLVC tournament. UIS owns a seven game winning streak, second only to UMSL in the GLVC.

The Prairie Stars will return to action tomorrow as they take on Missouri S&T to complete the weekend series.
