LAS VEGAS, NV --- The Prairie Stars competed in a field full of the nations' best teams in Las Vegas over the last two days, coming in 11
th in the 17 team field. The Prairie Stars were led by
Mitch McCafferty, who played this tournament as an individual, who tied a program record with a 68 on the final day. As a team, Illinois Springfield tied their third best team score with a 287 on the second day.
In the first round, which was played through intense winds, UIS shot a 303 but then cut that score down by 16 strokes on the second day and moved up two spots on the leaderboard, shooting a 287. This tied the third best 18-hole team score, last done in 2015-16 at the GLVC Championship at Panther Creek.
Individually,
Mitch McCafferty tied the lowest 18-hole score in UIS history with a two-under 68. The junior from Pekin, Illinois shot even on the front nine before putting together three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the back nine en route to a 33.
For the five that competed in the team competition, UIS was led by
Louis Bagur who fired a 147 total, following an opening round 75 with a 72.
Talon Supak opened with a 73 before closing the tournament with a 75, unfortunately closing the tournament with a quadruple bogey.
Nathan Goecks tied Supak with a 148 total, shooting 78 on the windy first day before closing with an even-par 70.
Erik Thulien finished one back of that duo, carding a 79-70, taking advantage of the better weather on day two.
Trevor Flota closed out the UIS scoring with a 77-76 for a 153 two-day total.
As a team, UIS ranked third in the field in par-five scoring, with a total score of eight-under par. They also ranked fourth in the field in total birdies on the weekend, recording 31 total birdies.
Supak and Bagur were on the top of the leaderboard in par-five scoring, playing those holes at three-under.
