SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars took sixth out of 10 teams at the Augustana College Early Spring Opener last Saturday and were led by
Lexi Yoggerst, who took first in the 800m run. Illinois Springfield scored 35 points across just seven events in the meet.
In the 200m dash,
Aeriel Storey led the way with an 11
th place finish in the 30-person race. Storey finished in 28.29, just three spots out of the scoring.
Christine Noppenberger (29.29),
LeeNaya Brewer (30.09), and Maddie Logsdon (30.21) all finished in the top-20.
Yoggerst went into the 800m run as the second seeded runner, but bester her seed time by 0.08 seconds en route to the victory, finishing in 2:22.68. Yoggerst paced the 14 runner field and picked up ten points for the Prairie Stars.
Hannah Roberts took 11
th with a time of 2:50.24, also beating her seed time.
UIS had four runners compete in the 3000m run, led by
Krissy Finley and
Olivia Rohr, who both finished inside the top-eight. Finley took second with a time of 10:54.54 and was one of just two runners to finish under 11 minutes. Rohr crossed in 11:36.78 and scored three points for UIS.
Haley Kerpan (11:50.49) and
Rachael Crowley (12:05.90) took 10
th and 12
th, respectively.
Kelsey Cleary competed in the 3000m steeplechase and took fourth, scoring five points for the Prairie Stars with a time of 13:31.94.
In the 4x400, UIS had two relay teams. The team of Finley, Kerpan, Rohr, and Yoggerst took fourth with a time of 4:21.85 while the team of Logsdon, Storey, Crowley, and Noppenberger took sixth, crossing in 4:49.53.
In field events, Brewer and
Madi Shane took 15
th and 17
th in the shot put with throws of 29'11.5" and 22'2.5". Logsdone finished ninth in the javelin but scored one point for UIS with a throw of 76'10".
UIS will compete again on Friday in St. Louis, Missouri at the WashU Distance Classic.
