ROCK ISLAND, IL --- The Prairie Stars men's track and field team continued their inaugural outdoor season at the Augustana College Early Spring Opener last Saturday. UIS placed ninth in the meet, competing in just six of the 21 scoring events.
Ruell Chappell led the way for the Prairie Stars, scoring six points in the 800m run with a third place finish in a 22-runner field. Chappell paced six Prairie Stars in the event with a 2:07.59 finish while Blake Carlino took seventh with a time of 2:09.10. Jose Corona (2:12.32) finished in the top-10 while Jake Shawgo (2:12.80) took 13
th. Charlie Lotspiech (2:20.45) and Justin Brown (2:22.32) rounded out the UIS competitors with 19
th and 20
th place finishes.
In the 1500m run, Brendan Kroeger (4:15.61) and Preston Henze (4:16.35) took 13
th and 14
th while Hiserote (4:26.17) took 33
rd in the 53-runner field.
Garrad Straube scored one point for UIS in the 3000m run, taking eighth place in the event with a time of 9:13.06. Alex Phelps (9:49.16) took 17
th place while Alex Ginglen (10:23.88) took 23
rd.
George Wayda competed in both the 400m dash and discus, taking 25
th in the 400 with a time of 56.46 and placed 10
th (ninth against attached throwers) in the discus with a throw of 132'5".
Straube concluded the men's field events with the javelin, scoring a throw of 117', finishing ninth, just one place out of the scoring.
UIS will compete again on Friday in St. Louis as part of the WashU Distance Classic. Â
