GEORGETOWN, KY --- The Prairie Stars ended their spring break trip with a stop in Georgetown, Kentucky for the Saginaw Valley Spring Invitational, hosted at Cherry Blossom Golf Course. Illinois Springfield shot an opening round 315, putting them in a tie for 14
th but on day two, UIS shot 20 strokes better, posting a 295 and bumping them up five spots to finish in a tie for 9
th.
The two-day total of 610 placed the Prairie Stars in the top half of the field at +34. The 295 in the second round was one of just seven total scores of 42 to break the 300 mark.
Erik Thulien led the way for UIS with a T-12 finish (77-71—148) putting him at just four-over par for the tournament. Thulien's second round one-under 71 was one of just seven rounds under par in the second round and two strokes off the low round of the day.
A trio of Prairie Stars joined Thulien in the top-50,
Trevor Flota taking T-34,
Talon Supak at T-43, and
Louis Bagur with a T-50 finish. Flota finished the tournament with scores of 77 and 76 for a 153 (+9) finish while Supak finished just one stroke back with scores of 78 and 76 for a total of 154. Bagur followed in closely behind with a two-day total of 155, shooting an opening round 83 before coming back to fire an even-par 72.
Mitch McCafferty finished T-75 with scores of 81 and 77 to finish at 158 (+14) for the tournament while
James Scagell broke the top-100 with a T-95 finish with back-to-back score of 81.
Nathan Goecks rounded out the scores for UIS with an 85 and 87.
UIS will head to Nashville on April 3
rd and 4
th for the spring regional held at Old Hickory Country Club.
