Prairie Stars Sweep Findlay and Walsh in Florida

CLERMONT, FL --- The Prairie Stars (9-10) swept their double header on their second day in Florida, beating the University of Findlay 4-2 before besting Walsh University 7-1 in the nightcap. Jaycee Craver (3-4) picked up the win in game one, but it was Rachel Goff who threw 5.2 innings, giving up just two earned. In game two, Ali Haesele (6-3) got redemption for a 1-0 loss to Walsh in Chicago, besting the Ohio team 7-1, striking out eight.

GAME ONE: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 4, FINDLAY 2
The Prairie Stars began the day behind Goff, as the senior righty shut down the Oilers for the first three innings. UIS got on the board in the top of the fourth when Amanda Gosbeth was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in the first run of the game.

Findlay responded in the bottom half with an RBI double to tie the game at one.

Goff responded in the sixth, except on the offensive side, hitting a solo homerun to left field, giving the Stars a 2-1 lead. The Oilers responded again in the bottom half, tying the game with a two-out single.

Morgan Edwards played the hero role again, knocking a two-out two-run single to left field, scoring BriAnna Edgar and Erin Stroup. Craver shut the door in the seventh, picking up the win in relief and giving UIS their second victory over the Oilers in the season.

GAME TWO: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 7, WALSH 1
Following their dramatic 4-2 win, UIS took on Walsh, looking to get some revenge for a 1-0 loss at the Lewis Flyers Dome Invitational. Haesele took the ball in the circle and threw another gem, throwing 6.0 innings, giving up one run on five hits, striking out eight. Brittany Moore closed out the final inning, striking out the final batter to give UIS the victory.

The Prairie Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third when UIS strung together a rally, beginning with a walk from Alexa Brown. Erin Stroup recorded the first RBI with a single, scoring Brown. Edgar nearly put one out of the park, but settled for a sacrifice fly, scoring Madi Torry, who previously reached on a bunt single. The final run came on a triple from Lakyn Wagoner, scoring Stroup.

Haesele started the following inning with a triple of her own and came in on a sacrifice fly from Gosbeth, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Two more runs in the fifth gave the Prairie Stars a 7-0 lead as they cruised to their ninth victory of the season.

PRAIRIE STAR NOTES: UIS collected 21 hits on the day, six going for extra bases … BriAnna Edgar had two doubles on the day, reaching base four times … Four Stars collected three hits: Madi Torry, Ali Haesele, Rachel Goff, Morgan EdwardsBaylee Hull doubled on the only pitch she saw, driving one down the right field line … UIS is hitting .346 in Florida with nine extra base hits.

UIS will play again on Monday, taking on Ohio Dominican and Ferris State at 10:30 and 3:30.
