INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Illinois Springfield women's track and field team closed the indoor portion of their season with strong performances at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships. The Prairie Stars scored eight points on the meet in just three events, headlined by
Krissy Finley finishing fourth in the 800 meter run and the distance medley relay team finishing sixth in record time.
In the 800 meter run, both Finley and
Lexi Yoggerst qualified as individuals for the 23-person event. Yoggerst finished just outside the scoring with a ninth place finish, crossing in 2:23.03. Finley picked up five points for the Prairie Stars with a fourth place finish, crossing in 2:20.22.
UIS participated in two relays' as well, the 4x400 and distance medley relay (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m). The team of Finley, Yoggerst,
Haley Kerpan and
Olivia Rohr competed in both events, finishing 10
th in the 4x400 as well as the distance medley relay.
In the 4x400, they took 10
th out of 12 teams with a time of 4:16.48, just four seconds outside of the top eight.
In the distance medley relay, the team finished in sixth place with a record-setting performance of 12:54.04. This bested their previous record of 12:57.94, which they set at the UIndy Meet on January 17
th.
The relay team consists of two freshmen, a sophomore, and junior so the same team will be in tact in years to come.
The Prairie Stars will continue their spring season at the USATF National 15K Road Race in Jacksonville, Florida.
