DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Angelo State University overwhelmed the University of Illinois Springfield with an 89-52 win during the Daytona Beach Shootout on Tuesday.

Angelo State (7-2) capitalized on its hot shooting. The Belles drained 32-of-68 (47.1 percent) from the field and 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) attempts from 3-point range. UIS (8-2) was limited to 25.7 percent (18-of-70) shooting from the floor and 26.9 percent shooting (7-of-26) from the perimeter.

"We faced a very talented opponent," UIS coach
Mark Kost said. "We played with great effort but struggled to make shots."

Shelbi Patterson provided a team-high 14 points and two blocks.
Tehya Fortune contributed nine points.
Katelyn Rosner notched eight points and four blocks.
Val Meissner recorded five points and two blocks.
Grace Weber and
Chasitee Shroyer each delivered four points.
Reje Pitchford and
Lanie Hicks scored three points apiece while
Destiny Ramsey rounded out the UIS scoring effort with two points.

Fortune, Rosner and Ramsey led the Prairie Stars with five rebounds apiece.

De'Anira Moore paced the Belles with 16 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Ekiya Gray tallied 15 points. Mikayla Blount put together 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dezirae Hampton and Marquita Daniels turned in 13 points and 11 points, respectively.

The Belles powered to a 29 advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Prairie Stars by a 59-to-30 margin. Angelo State also outscored UIS 38-14 in the paint.

The Belles sank 15-of-19 (78.9 percent) shots from the free-throw line while the Prairie Stars hit 9-of-11 (81.8 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.

UIS and Angelo State were even at 11-all through the first quarter. The Belles took a 34-21 lead at halftime and extended their advantage to 63-39 after three quarters. Angelo State topped UIS 26-13 in the fourth quarter.
The Prairie Stars, who are 2-0 in conference play, return to action with a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup with Lewis University (8-4, 2-1) on Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Romeoville, IL. UIS faces off with McKendree University (3-5, 0-2) in conference play on Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. in Lebanon, IL.
