Volleyball Continues Streak, Sweeps Wisconsin-Parkside

KENOSHA, WI --- The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match on Friday night, sweeping Wisconsin-Parkside 25-17, 28-26, 25-17. With the win, the Prairie Stars improve to 19-8 overall and 10-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Prairie Stars attacked at a .242 clip on the night, while holding the Rangers to a mere .129 attack percentage. UIS totaled 11 kills against just two errors in the final set, hitting at a mark of .281 – their best of the night. On top of that, in the second set, UIS totaled an incredible 22 kills in the set.

Illinois Springfield used a 5-1 run early in the first set to take control and then ended the set by scoring six of the final eight points to close it out.

In the second, UIS held a 14-7 advantage but Parkside scored five consecutive points to close the gap to 14-12. A five-point run later in the set gave the Rangers a 19-17 lead but UIS tied it up at 20 and then took a 23-22 lead on a kill from Taylor Bauer. Parkside responded with two straight points and then each team had two separate set points, but UIS closed out the set with three straight points on kills from Alli Splitt and Alyssa Hasler.

The Prairie Stars rolled to a third set win, allowing Parkside to score consecutive points only three times all set.

UIS was led by Splitt with 12 kills while Hasler added 11 and Bauer 10. Hasler committed just one error on 15 attacks for a .667 attack percentage, tied for the second highest in a single-game for somebody with 15 attacks.

Tiffany Wentworth recorded a double-double with 35 assists and 20 digs while Courtney Schutt also collected 20 digs.

The eight match winning streak is the longest in the GLVC, three games clear of the next best. As the McKendree Bearcats fell to Lewis, UIS sits only three back for the GLVC central division.
