Prairie Stars Rally Past MacMurray for Fourth Straight Win

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (4-2) won their fourth straight game with a 76-62 win over Division III opponent MacMurray (1-1) Saturday afternoon. Illinois Springfield overcame a hot start from the Highlanders, who hit their first five three point attempts to jump out to a 15-5 lead. UIS responded though behind a career-high 27 points from Eddie Longmeyer and won their fourth straight game for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

As stated, the Highlanders hit their first five three point attempts and their first 18 points came off the three ball before finally hitting a two at the 11:22 mark, to push their lead to 20-12. UIS tied the game at 25 but never took the lead in the first half and MacMurray pushed their lead back to six before ultimately leadings 37-35 at the half.

MacMurray hit 8-of-13 from deep in the first half and just 6-of-16 from inside the arc. On the other side, UIS hit 4-of-14 from deep to combat the hot shooting from the Highlanders.

The second half was much different though, as the Highlanders hit just 2-of-13 from deep while still unable to connect from inside the arc. UIS however, shot 13-of-29 from the field in the second half and hit 13-of-14 from the line. UIS dominated the second half, owning the boards 24-15 and holding MacMurray to just 25 points.

For the third time this season, senior guard Eddie Longmeyer has either tied for set a new career-high for scoring, dropping in 27 points on possibly the most efficient night of his career. Longmeyer connected on 10-of-12 shots, including 2-of-3 from deep and 5-of-7 from the line. He grabbed 12 rebounds, the most of the season, and in doing so, collected his second double-double of the regular season (not counting a 17 point/14 rebound performance against Southern Illinois).

The Highlanders simply had no answer for Longmeyer, as he takes aim for his second consecutive GLVC Player of the Week selection.

The Prairie Stars have now won four straight games by an average of 24.5 points. This is the first time UIS has won four consecutive games since 2011-12 season.

UIS will look to continue its streak on Monday night when they welcome in the Lynx of Lindenwood-Belleville. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
