Borum’s Double-Double Leads Prairie Stars to 7th Straight Win

QUINCY, IL --- The Prairie Stars (18-8, 9-4) had their 18 set winning streak snapped but kept the more important streak alive, winning their seventh consecutive match with a 3-1 win over Quincy (7-18. 4-10). Jailyn Borum led the way for the Prairie Stars with a team high 16 kills, four blocks, and 22 digs, recording her 11th double-double of the season.

In the first set, the lone set the Prairie Stars dropped, Quincy attacked at a .250 clip, recording 15 kills in the set. The Hawks would hit in the negatives in the second set, committing 11 errors and then didn't attack better than .150 the rest of the night.

Illinois Springfield held a 19-18 advantage in the opening set, but Quincy rallied for seven of the final eight points to take the set.

In the second, UIS opened up an 8-3 lead with four consecutive points, and then added to that by scoring seven of the next nine to lead 15-7. After the Hawks closed the gap to 19-16 with a 7-1 run, UIS closed the set by scoring the final six points to win 25-16.

UIS jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the third and closed by scoring four of the final six, ending the set with a kill from Borum to take a two sets to one lead.

To close, UIS led the Hawks just 19-18 but Alyssa Hasler got things rolling with a kill, setting UIS on a 6-1 run to close out the set and the match.

Borum tallied a team-high 16 kills, while also recording 22 digs, her sixth match this season with at least 20 digs. Taylor Bauer added 12 kills on the night with the help from Tiffany Wentworth, who totaled 37 assists.

The seven match winning streak is the longest in UIS history during the Division II era, and during that streak, UIS has won four straight GLVC matches, which ties their season high for conference wins in a season.

Illinois Springfield will continue a four-match road swing at Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday before traveling to Indianapolis on Saturday. After that, UIS will return home for their final home match of the season against Maryville before closing the season at (RV) McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis.
