ROMEOVILLE, IL --- The Prairie Stars (7-13, 2-9) didn't have an answer for the high-powered offense of Lewis University, falling 94-73 to the intra-state conference foe. Five Prairie Stars scored in double-figures on the day but it wasn't enough as UIS couldn't overcome a 12-point halftime deficit on the road.
A big difference maker in the contest was a 15-6 turnover ratio in favor of the Flyers, resulting in 16-points of those turnovers opposed to just ten for UIS.
The Prairie Stars jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead as Lijah Donnely opened up the offensive possession for UIS with a layup before
Zach Steinberg connected for two free throws. A three from
Paxton Harmon at the 10:29 mark gave UIS a 23-22 advantage but Lewis took the lead back on the next possession and wouldn't give it back the rest of the way.
Down 33-31, UIS closed the first half on the wrong side of an 18-8 run, giving the Flyers a 51-39 advantage at the break.
UIS cut the deficit down to five with 8:51 remaining in the game on a three from
Eddie Longmeyer but Lewis came back with two triples of their own. UIS got the deficit down to single digits once more on two more of Steinberg's eight free throws on the night but Lewis wouldn't be denied on their home court.
UIS shot just 39.3 percent on the game, their lowest percentage since January 5
th against Truman State but they connected on 10 three's, the second straight game in which they accomplished that feat and just the fifth time all season.
Longmeyer accounted for 12 points on the night while Donnelly and Harmon each netted 11.
Kaj Days totaled nine points and four boards as
Logan Gonce didn't miss all night, putting in five points on 1-of-1 from the field and 3-of-3 from the line.
UIS will look to right the ship next Thursday as they return home to face Missouri- St. Louis for a 7:30 PM tip before hosting Maryville on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
