SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Macy Martin notched two goals against the University of Findlay on Sunday, leading the Prairie Stars to a 2-0 start under interim head coach,
Erin Egolf. The Prairie Stars scored twice in the opening half before adding the clincher in the 52nd minute, cruising to a 3-1 victory over the Oilers in their first weekend of play.
The Prairie Stars outshot the Oilers 16-11 on the game, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. In goal,
Courtney Johnson --- coming off a shutout in her first collegiate start --- made two saves in the win, playing all 90 minutes.
Karisa Rogers got the scoring started for the Prairie Stars in the eighth minute off a pass from
Madisyn Coudriet. The Oilers answered back in the 20th minute, beating Johnson for the first goal against her this season. Shortly after, Martin scored the eventual game-winning goal, taking a pass from
Valentina Rodriguez and beating the Findlay keeper. The goal in the 26th minute would hold up as the game-winner.
In the second half, Martin struck again, this time on a pass from
Erin Bolskar. Martin's second goal of the year proved to be the dagger, putting the game out of reach.
The Prairie Stars will come home for the first time this season on Wednesday to face non-conference opponent Judson before starting conference play on Friday against Quincy.
