Juhlin Nets Game-Winner in Overtime to Best Judson

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Despite it being a 1-0 finish in overtime, the Prairie Stars (3-0) dominated the entire game against NAIA foe Judson University (3-1) as they improved to 3-0 for the first time in program history. Illinois Springfield outshot the Eagles 30-2 on the night including a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal in their home opener for the 2016 season.

"Home openers are always exciting," said head coach Erin Egolf. "While we weren't actually on our stadium field, the girls took full advantage of the practice field that they train on every day."

After starting 2-0 for the third time since the inception of the program in 2010, the Prairie Stars made history by taking the third game of the season as well. In the opening half, UIS dominated the ball control but couldn't find the back of the net. The Prairie Stars held a 12-1 advantage in shots and upped that number to 15-1 in the second half.

Mariana Salas, the Eagles keeper , kept the visitors in the game in the second half, making numerous saves, none better than in the 87th minute when she left her feet to keep a Karisa Rogers shot from going in.

UIS hit the post or crossbar three times in the second half, only to end the first 90 minutes of play still scoreless. Two saves in the first five minutes kept the game going but at 97:12, Maggie Juhlin took a cross from Karisa Rogers and beat Salas for the game-winner. It was Juhlin's second goal of the season and she becomes the first player for UIS women's soccer to score an overtime goal.

"I am thrilled with the mindset of this team and their resilience. While we dominated most of the game today and had a ton of quality scoring chances, we couldn't quite find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. The girls didn't settle for that- they battled and found a way to win. Discovering after the game that we had set a program record for best start to a season was extremely fitting. This team has put in so much work and adapted to a lot of changes over the past month, and I couldn't be more proud of them. They absolutely deserve this and we hope to keep the momentum going as we head into conference play!"

After notching wins in their three non-conference games, the Prairie Stars now turn their attention to 15 consecutive GLVC contests, beginning with Quincy University on Friday at 5:00 PM. UIS will end their weekend on Sunday against Truman State with a noon kickoff.
