UIS Scores First but Can’t Hang on Against UMSL

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Karisa Rogers scored in the 14th minute against Missouri – St. Louis, but the Prairie Stars couldn't hang on, falling by a score of 2-1 on the road. Illinois Springfield (4-2, 1-2) fell for the first time this season after taking a lead, as UMSL (2-1, 2-1) scored once in each half to take the GLVC match.

Rogers, a St. Charles, Mo native, playing in her backyard, scored the game's first goal in the 14th minute. Picking up her second goal of the season, Rogers notched Jasmine Rea her first assist of the year.

UMSL scored the equalizer in the 31st minute, beating goalie Courtney Johnson. It was just the second first half goal Johnson has given up all season.

The Tritons managed the game-winning goal in the 54th minute on a shot from 35 yards out that just found its way over Johnson's head.

UIS was outshot 16-6 in the game, though the shots on goal were even at five each side. Illinois Springfield put three shots on goal in the second half, including two in the final three minutes. UMSL keeper, Emily Rish was also forced to make a save with just 21 seconds remaining, keeping the game intact.

UIS will continue the two-game road swing on Sunday when they face Maryville as the GLVC slate continues. Kick-off is set for 12 pm.
