Supak Makes History; Wins NCAA Regional

ALLENDALE, MI --- Talon Supak won the NCAA Midwest/Central Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships, becoming the first athlete in UIS Division II history to accomplish the feat. The junior from Washington, Illinois shot 5-over (70-71-77-218) for the tournament to take medalist honors in Allendale, Michigan and became the first UIS athlete to advance past the regional round.

Supak ended the day with a 6-over 77 on a windy day in which the field struggled to post low rounds, Supak battled to a 6-over round. Tallying two birdies on the day, Supak ended the day with six bogeys and a double bogey en route to his final score. The biggest of shots came on the 15th hole, when he chipped in for birdie on the 455-yard par four.

"It was three of the most brutal days on a golf course I've ever experienced," said assistant coach Sam Norbom. "The chip in on 15 turned everything around. He absolutely battled today and all his hard work has paid off."

The junior outdueled James Inman from Bellarmine and Zach James of SE Oklahoma State to take the crown, earning his second medalist honors of the season. By winning the tournament, Supak advances to the NCAA Championships in Denver, Colorado at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club for the right to play for the National Championship.  The National Championships will take place from May 17-21.

Supak ended the tournament playing the par-3's at even par, and was second in the field in par-4 scoring at a mere 5-over. Totaling 32 pars and 10 birdies, Supak ranked in the top-15 in pars and top-two in birdies for the tournament, pacing his 1-stroke victory.

Supak is coming off a week in which he was named the UIS Male Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season, and further solidified his place in UIS history.
