SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Jane Carter pulled out a three-set win over Southern Indiana in the opening match of GLVC play. The Prairie Stars took on Southern Indiana and the women fell 8-1 while the men suffered a 9-0 defeat. Carter won her fifth straight singles match and pushed her season record to 14-6 and 11-4 in dual action.
MEN'S TENNIS
The men's tennis team fell to Southern Indiana 9-0 as the Prairie Stars fell to 9-7 on the season and the Screaming Eagles improved to 10-3. Each team was playing their GLVC opener.
Cole Buehnerkemper and
Logan Burgess Hayes played the toughest doubles match, but ultimately got bested 8-6. The final two doubles matches finished 8-0. The loss for Buehnerkemper and Burgess Hayes is their second doubles loss in their last five matches, including a win over #16 ranked Washburn on Friday.
In singles, Buehnerkemper again played the toughest match, falling in two-sets 7-6 (8-3), 6-3. No match went three sets on the day but Buehnerkemper was the lone Prairie Star to take more than three sets in a match.
UIS will be back in action against perennial GLVC powerhouse Indianapolis on Friday, April 8
th and then take on McKendree the following day in Lebanon.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
 As stated, Carter picked up her fifth straight singles victory, winning in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3. It was the only match to go three sets on the day. As was the case Friday, UIS had to suffer two default losses, giving Southern Indiana nearly half of their necessary wins.
Carter and Danquah fell 8-0 in the top doubles while
Jasmin Morgan and
Danielle Mendoza were bested 8-1.
In singles, after the Carter win, UIS struggled, winning just six total games in the other four matches.
UIS dropped to 6-10 on the season while Southern Indiana improved to 5-8. Again, each team was playing their conference opener.
The Prairie Stars will play the same schedule as the men's team next week, traveling to Indianapolis on Friday before taking on McKendree on Saturday in back-to-back GLVC matches.
