Prairie Stars Make History; Advance to Super Regional at Panther Creek

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Following their historic performance at the GLVC Championships, the women's golf team will continue their record breaking season at the NCAA Super Regional held at Panther Creek. This is the first time in school history the Prairie Stars have qualified for the Super Regional, having only an individual qualify once before. The three-day 54-hole tournament will run from May 2nd-4th.

UIS is one of 12 teams participating in the East Regional, joining Grand Valley State, Indianapolis, Findlay, Southern Indiana, Ashland, California (PA), Northwood, Trevecca Nazarene, UMSL, Lewis, and William Jewell .

The Prairie Stars garnered the tenth seed in the region which includes six teams from the GLVC as well as two individuals rom Drury and Truman State.

The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with an advancing team will advance to the NCAA championships held May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado.

UIS is coming off the GLVC Championships in which they finished in a tie for third, shooting three of their best four rounds in the history of the program.

The Prairie Stars are led by freshman Maria Espinosa, who owns the best scoring average at 80.08 while Kayla Yn and Rebecca Ramirez are close behind, averaging an 80.58 and 80.63, respectively.
