SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (9-17, 2-11) ended a perfect weekend with a 3-0 win over Maryville University (3-23, 1-12).
Emma Burkle led the charge against the Saints with a game-high 14 kills while committing just one error. The sophomore from Crystal Lake, Illinois tallied a career-high in kills on the day, posting just her third match with double-digit kills in her two-year career at UIS.
Burkle had three kills in the first set before posting seven in the second and ended the match with a four-kill third set. She committed her lone error in the first set then played the rest of the match in dominating fashion.
The Prairie Stars came out and won the first set 25-22, attacking at a .314 clip in the opening set. Illinois Springfield only got better in the second set, tallying 20 kills against three errors, good for a .515 mark. UIS held Maryville to just eight kills in the second set to take it 25-17.
In the third, UIS pulled away with a 25-15 win to sweep their fifth match of the season. The .374 attack percentage as a team was their second highest of the season, behind only a .486 mark against Alderson-Broaddus on October 15
th at the Midwest Crossover Tournament.
Tiffany Sunderlin concluded her big weekend with a 10 kill afternoon, also committing just one error.
Alli Splitt had seven kills and zero errors on 15 attacks. The combination of
Alyssa Hasler, Sunderlin, Burkle, and Splitt combined for 37 kills and just three errors.
UIS is now 6-3 all-time against Maryville and have more wins over the Saints than any other team in the GLVC.
Lexi Hall had a game-high 23 assists while
Tiffany Wentworth added 20 of her own.
Kayla Katarzynski had 11 digs in the back row while
Jailyn Borum had 14.
The Prairie Stars will continue the final stretch of the regular season as they look to continue their GLVC winning streak as they travel to Missouri S&T and Drury next Friday and Saturday.
