UIS Takes Early Lead; Falls to Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, IN --- The Prairie Stars (6-9-2, 5-7-2) scored in the first five minutes of the game but ultimately fell to Southern Indiana (11-2-3, 9-2-3) by a score of 3-1 in the penultimate game of the regular season. Zach Allevi netted the lone goal for the Prairie Stars off a cross from Naba Alzhyri.

In the first game of the weekend, UIS played to a 0-0 draw with Bellarmine at home. The two-teams are both in a position to grab a final playoff spot and neither one could manage to beat the other goalie for 110 minutes of play.

In the hunt for the final playoff spot in the GLVC tournament, the Prairie Stars traveled to Southern Indiana looking to stay in the driver's seat for the final playoff spot. Allevi began the game with a goal in the fourth minute, putting in a cross from Alzyhri off a corner. The goal was Allevi's seventh of the year, which leads the team.

The Screaming Eagles came back with the equalizer in the 12th minute and then took the lead eight minutes later in the 20th minute. The first goal was scored by the second leading scorer in the GLVC, as he notched his tenth goal of the year. Southern Indiana added to their lead in the 38th minute, pushing the score to 3-1 by the end of the half.

UIS put two shots on goal in the game, scoring on their first attempt before putting one on net in the second half.

A red card was issued to Jack Coombes in the 75th minute, putting the Prairie Stars down a player for the final 15 minutes.

The Prairie Stars are in a virtual tie with Maryville for the final playoff spot, as the two-teams hold the same conference winning percentage. UIS holds the head-to-head tiebreaker after beating Maryville 2-0 on September 18th. Truman State also has a chance to push in for a three-way tie, which will be decided in the final game of the regular season which is to be played on Wednesday.

UIS will host McKendree in the final game with a kick-off set for 7:30 pm at Kiwanis Stadium.
