SOMERS, WI --- The Prairie Stars (7-15, 0-10) came up on the wrong side of a five-set match as they fell to Wisconsin – Parkside (10-13, 6-4) in a decisive fifth set. The two teams traded off victories in the first four sets, as Parkside took the first and third while UIS came back for victories in the second and fourth before ultimately falling 17-15 in the final set.
UIS came out and fell in the opening set 25-13, picking up just six kills in the set. The Prairie Stars came back strong in the second set though and picked up a 25-19 win, collecting 12 kills opposite six errors.
In the third set, Parkside jumped out to a 7-3 lead but the Prairie Stars rallied to take their first lead at 10-9, utilizing an error from the Rangers. The two teams traded points before UIS took a 22-20 lead. Parkside came back with three straight points to take a late lead and then ultimately closed the set with three of the final four points to take the set 27-25.
The Prairie Stars stayed alive in the fourth set with a 25-21 win, collecting 18 kills against just four errors. UIS hit .424 in the fourth set en route to the four point win.
In the fifth set, UIS trailed 13-8 before
Lexi Hall served UIS to six consecutive points, giving the Prairie Stars a 14-13 lead. UIS had another match point at 15-14 but were unable to close the door as the Rangers closed the match with three straight points to take the set and match.
Alli Splitt picked up a game-high 18 kills on the night, committing just one error and attacking .531.
Alyssa Hasler picked up 14 kills and hit .268 on the match while
Ashley Beaton also collected double-digit kills with 11 on 25 attacks.
UIS will turn around and face #16 Lewis University tomorrow at 3 pm to close out the weekend.
