SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Louis Bagur snagged a second place finish as he bested teammate
Talon Supak, who finished third, as the Prairie Stars won the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invitational by five strokes over Great Lakes Valley opponent, Bellarmine.
UIS shot a two-day total of 588, their third best 36-hole total in the history of the program. Bagur's two-under par 142 (72-70) total was just the seventh time a player had finished a 36-hole tournament under par.
The Prairie Stars held a two shot lead over Rockhurst after the first day, shooting a 295 and bested that score by two strokes on the final day, coming in with a 293 and securing their first win of the season. Bagur took second place in the tournament, finishing one stroke back of Bellarmine's DJ Vogt, who shot a four-under 68 in the final round to take medalist honors.
Supak followed an opening 73 with a one-under 71 to take third place.
Trevor Flota finished just outside the top-ten with a T-11 finish after shooting 75 and 74 for a 149 total.
Erik Thulien and
James Scagell rounded out the top-five for UIS, shooting 153 and 171, respectively.
Nathan Goecks, playing as an individual, secured a T-14 finish after shooting an even par 72 on the final day. Cole Kempinkski broke into the top-20 with a 75-77-152 total for a T-18 finish.
Supak was one of five players in the tournament to play the par three's under par, going one-under on the tournament. Bagur was far and away the best player in the field on par fours over the weekend, playing them in four-under, three shots better than the next best player. Along with playing the par three's better than nearly the whole field, Supak led the field in par five scoring, going three under on the eight par fives.
The Prairie Stars will travel to St. Louis, Missouri for Midwest Regional #2 next weekend which will be held at Fox Run Golf Club. UIS finished T-13 of 25 in the first Midwest Regional last week.
