SPRINGFIELD, IL --- In the final non-conference match of the season, the Prairie Stars (5-7-1) cruised to a 6-1 victory over Oakland City (2-9) in their penultimate midweek match of the season. Illinois Springfield scored four goals in the first half to take control of the game before ultimately taking a six goal lead in the second half.
Naba Alzhyri began the game with his first goal of the season at the 5:34 mark, scoring off a pass from Zach Allevi for the 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until the 27
th minute when
Kanye Sayon netted his first of two goals in the half, this one off passes from
Mac Leverenz and
Grant Bauer.
Sayon's second goal of the night came ten minutes later, this time assisted by
Khalid Dhalla, pushing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Prairie Stars. The final goal of the half came just two minutes later as
Grant Bauer got in on the scoring, netting his first goal of the season as Sayon picked up his fifth point of the night with an assist.
Mario Falsone began the second half with his fourth goal of the season before
Edward Rose put in a free kick from 40 yards out to push the score to a game-high 6-0. The goal was Rose's first of the season and first in a UIS uniform.
The Prairie Stars outshot the Mighty Oaks 10-6, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal .
Tommy Geile made two saves in the first half before being replaced by
Kyle Hamilton and
Benjamin Shuty in the second half.
Sayon ended the night with two goals and one assist while Bauer notched a goal and two assists. UIS had six assists to go with six goals on the night as eight different players picked up points.Â
UIS will return to conference play this weekend as they take on William Jewell on Friday and #1 Rockhurst on Sunday. The Hawks have been atop the national poll for three weeks now after beginning the season as the third ranked team.
