SOMERS, WI --- Emily Matsen scored her second goal of the season to lead the Prairie Stars (6-4, 3-4) to a 1-0 win over Wisconsin – Parkside (4-4-1, 4-3). The junior from Springfield, Illinois scored in the final seconds of the half, putting in a loose ball off a deflection. The win is the Prairie Stars' second in their last three games and moves them into seventh in the GLVC standings.
UIS was outshot in the match 11-5, including a 7-4 mark in shots on goal, but
Courtney Johnson was perfect in goal, stopping all seven shots that came her way. The shutout was Johnson's third of the season and improved her save percentage to .864. The three shutouts is fifth best in the league while her save percentage ranks fourth best.
Macy Martin and
Valentina Rodriguez each fired two shots on the day while Matsen had just the one resulting in the lone goal of the game.
UIS will finish off the road trip on Sunday at 2:30 when they travel to Lewis University. The Flyers are 2-4-1, 4-5-1 on the season and are coming off a 1-0 loss to McKendree.
