Katarzynski Joins 1,000-Dig Club; Stars Drop Two at Tournament

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Junior libero Kayla Katarzynski joined the 1,000-dig club in the University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team's opening match against St. Cloud State. She now sits in sixth in the overall record book with 1,011.

Katarzynski's individual accomplishment was not enough to power UIS to wins as St. Cloud State won 3-2, while No. 13 Central Missouri dropped the Stars 3-0 in the final match of the Peggy Martin Invitational.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORES:
St. Cloud State W, 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 28-26, 25-18, 15-12); #13 UCM W, 3-0 (-13, -18, -12)
LOCATION: Warrensburg, Mo. - UCM Multipurpose Building.
RECORD: UIS falls to 0-4
UP NEXT: Stars get a quick break before heading to Nebraska Kearney for a head-to-head match before taking part in a two-day tournament

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Entering the season, Katarzynski (Winfield, Ill.) was just 47 digs away from becoming the first player in UIS Division II history to amass 1,000 digs. She did so today with 23 digs against St. Cloud State.
- Freshman Tiffany Wentworth (Omaha, Neb.) tallied a double-double in each match during the invitational. She record 98 helpers on the weekend and 48 digs. She also leads the team with a .288 hitting percentage.
- Classmate Alyssa Hasler (South Bend, Ind.) leads the team at the net with two block solos and 14 block assists.

COACH'S CORNER
"We really played a complete match this morning against St. Cloud. We experienced some great runs and really saw our offensive system reach some new heights. Our serve-receive was our Achilles heel in that match as we were forced out of our system for the last 10 points of the fifth set." - Coach Salinas

"The UCM match was probably our weakest of the tournament. I think the girls were beat from the five-set thrilled earlier in the day. We struggled to get any offense going. We are getting excited about rest and then getting back into TRAC to prepare for another tough weekend ahead." - Coach Salins.

FOR THE OPPONENTS

Game Two
- Central Missouri's Maddie Jones recorded 12 kills on 17 attempts with just one error to hit .647.
