Prairie Stars Open Season With 3-0 Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Three players scored in the Prairie Stars' 3-0 victory against the South Dakota School of Mines Friday evening at Cownie Soccer Complex. Junior-transfers Zachary Allevi (Adelaide, Australia) and Kanye Sayon (Ghana) collected their first goals for UIS and junior Dylan Stockman (Peoria, Ill.) netted his first goal of the season.

The Basics
  • Final Score: UIS 3, SD School of Mines 0
  • Records: UIS (1-0), SD School of Mines (0-1)

How It Happened
  • The Prairie Stars outshot the Hardrockers 9-2 in the first half but neither team could find the breakthrough in the first 45 minutes.
  • UIS threatened to score early in the second period but was denied twice by the Hardrockers. After sophomore keeper Tommy Geile (O'Fallon, Mo.) made his first save of the half, the Prairie Stars scored two goals in the 55th and 56th minutes.
  • Kanye Sayon made it 3-0 with a goal in the 68th minute.

Coach Miech
"The game opened up in the second half and our guys really picked it up. It was a total team effort and we got all of our field players that were healthy into the game, which was a positive. I'm happy with the performance and if we can continue to improve and build on what we're doing we'll be all right."
