SPRINGFIELD, IL - The University of Illinois Springfield volleyball team is looking to take the momentum from its first GLVC victory on Saturday and stay hot against Bellarmine and Southern Indiana as they come to Springfield. UIS against the Knights is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, while the Screaming Eagles come to TRAC for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday.
QUICK HITS
- In conference-only games, UIS is ranked fourth in blocks and freshman Alyssa Hasler is second with 20 total stops.
- Senior Nikki Madoch (Algonquin, Ill.) is ranked ninth in the conference in hitting percentage at .307 clip. She owns 117 kills on 287 attempts with just 29 errors. She helped lead UIS to a 3-1 victory against William Jewell with 13 kills.
- Junior Ashley Beaton (Wildwood, Mo.) continues to top the team in total kills with 150.
- Sophomore Lexi Hall (Champaign, Ill.) stepped back into a starting role this weekend and now is second on the team with 82 helpers, while counterpart Tiffany Wentworth (Omaha, Neb.) is leading the team in both assists (309) and digs (120).
LAST TIME
- In 2014, UIS dropped back-to-back 3-1 decisions to Bellarmine and Southern Indiana. The Stars picked up a 25-20 win in the second set, but could not hang on for the next two sets. Then-senior Shelby Geers recorded a game-high 17 kills, while Hall totaled 25 assists and 10 digs.
- Against Southern Indiana, UIS fought to a 29-27 win in the first set, but Screaming Eagles buckled down and knocked off the home team, 25-15, -16, -18. Geers topped the team against with 14 kills, while Kayla Katarzynski stepped up with 19 digs.
SCOUTING BELLARMINE
- The Knights are on a five-game losing sreak and only own one GLVC win.
- Margaret Horihan currently leads the team in kills per set (2.48) and total blocks (25), while sitting in second in aces with 15. Aurryella Mason tops the team in total kills with 117, but only has a .119 attack percentage.
- Allie Muha runs the offense for Bellarmine and has 440 assists to rank fourth in the conference.
- Jordyn Kuchhenbrod is first in the league with 282 total digs and 5.54 per in 51 sets.
- As a team, Bellarmine is third in the GLVC in aces, but sits in last in blocks per set.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN INDIANA
- The Screaming Eagles had a three-game winning streak snapped at Cedarville in a non-conference match on Tuesday. It was the Eagles' third loss of the season.
- Three players have more than 130 kills with Erica Oberbroekling leading the way with 154 to rank eighth in the GLVC in kills per set.
- Abby Winter is also a threat with the third-best attack percentage, hitting a .356 clip. She is also dangerous off the block as she owns 69 total stops and sits second in the GLVC.
- Sophomore libero Shannon Farrell was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance against Truman and Quincy. She came within one dig of the school's single-match record.
