JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The University of Illinois Springfield softball team hammered out 26 hits and allowed just three as it swept Lincoln, 5-0, and 13-1 (5 inn.), on Tuesday afternoon at the LU Softball Field.
In game one,
Taylor Bowlby and
Rachel Goff pitched a complete game shut out with just one hit, no walks and three strikeouts between the two. The Prairie Stars put up runs in the first, second, fourth and seventh inning.
Bowlby is now 17-6 on the season and matches teammate
Alexandria Smith's single-season win record set a year ago. Goff tossed two innings of scoreless ball to post her third combined shut out with Bowlby.
Illinois Springfield's bats got going in game two as it started the game with four runs in the opening frame. Lincoln added a run in its side of the inning, but it was all it could muster for the game as Smith and the UIS defense allowed just two total batters past second base.
After a quiet second, the Prairie Stars added seven runs in the third to open up the game. UIS added two more runs in the fourth to put the 12-run difference between the home team.
Smith moved to 10-9 on the season allowing just two hits and five walks in the victory.
Senior
Jordyn Amos was 5-for-6 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBI, while recording a stolen base. Junior
Molly Manietta went 4-for-7 with a walk and two RBI.
Ashli King also registered two RBI with a 3-for-7 outing at the plate.
The Prairie Stars return to GLVC play on Saturday at Drury to wrap up their final conference games.
