TERRE HAUTE, IN --- The Prairie Stars (4-6) took the court against the Sycamores of Indiana State (4-6) in their second and final exhibition game of the season, both against Division I teams. The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) fell 75-60 to the Sycamores, who improve to 4-6 on the season.
The Prairie Star's began the game with a three from
JJ Cravatta and a jumper from
Richard Freeman to take a quick 5-2 lead. An 8-0 run from the Sycamores turned that lead into an eight point deficit, and the Prairie Stars would not take another lead.
A three from
Vince Walker at the 10:29 mark cut the UIS deficit to 12, but Indiana State answered right back, keeping the lead above ten for most of the first half. A pair of Freeman free throws in the final 20 seconds brought the score to 36-27, where it would stay for the end of the half.
Just as was the case in the first half, the Prairie Stars came out with two quick baskets, and cut the deficit to just seven. However, another 8-0 run for the Sycamores ended with a three and forced the Prairie Stars into a timeout, now down 15. A layup from
Paxton Harmon and a three point play from Cravatta once again cut into the Sycamore lead, as it was down to just ten at the first media timeout.
The Sycamore took a game high 18 point lead with 11:43 left in the game, capping a quick 5-0 spurt. Striking back with a 10-1 run, the Prairie Stars refused to go away, cutting the deficit to just six with over five minutes remaining in regulation.
Over the next three minutes, the Sycamores were 3-of-3 from the field, including two three's and made 3-of-4 free throws to push their lead back to 17.
Over the final two minutes, the Prairie Stars got 13 players into the game in front of 3,100 fans at the Hulman Center. Freeman led the way for the Prairie Stars with 11 points and six rebounds, leading in both categories.
Davi Austin and
Logan Gonce had three assists each, while
Jamall Millison added eight points.
The Prairie Stars are off until December 30
th when they will host Governors State in their penultimate non-conference game of the year. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm in TRAC.
